CAT 2014 is a computer based management aptitude test administered by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) as part of admission to its own management programs as well as accepted as a norm for admission to premier management colleges and B-schools in India. Collectively these MBA colleges are known as CAT Colleges.

In terms of level of competence, CAT exam ranks among the top ten toughest entrance exams in India and worldwide beating even the SSC’s civil service examination.  CAT exam is known to unnerve even the most brilliant bookworm . 

The rise in the number of aspirants in previous years has also prompted the concerned examining board to rethink its testing pattern and  raise the bar in terms of level of competence.

IIM Indore is the conducting institute for CAT 2014.

CAT 2014 Important Dates:



• Publication of advertisement- July 28, 2014 (Monday).
• Start date for online registration- August 06, 2014 (Wednesday).
• Last date for online registration-
September 30, 2014 (Tuesday). 
• Exam date-November 16, 2014 (Sunday) and  November 22, 2014 (Saturday).
• Result- Third week of December.



CAT 2014 Eligibility:- 

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) categories], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
  • The percentage of marks obtained by the applicant in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the applicant has obtained the degree.  In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.
  • Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply for CAT 2014.
  • Candidates selected will be allowed to join the program provisionally and only if they have submitted the certificate latest by 30th June, 2015 from the Principal/Registrar of College/Institute.
• Age- Should have been born on or after 01st October 1989.

• Relaxations in age- 5 years in case of SC/ST/PWD/DA candidates.

 CAT 2014, 2015 Exam Dates and Details:-

• Test dates:- November 16, 2014 (Sunday) and  November 22, 2014 (Saturday).
• Test days-02
• Sessions- Two sessions
• Morning Session
• Afternoon Session

Candidates are required to report at least two hours before commencement of the exam at the CAT test centre.

How to Apply for CAT 2014? 

Apply online for CAT 2014 on www.iimcat.ac.in. CAT 2014 Online Application Form will be accepted from 06th August (Wednesday) to 30th September (Tuesday),2014.

CAT 2014 Application Fee:-
  • Rs 1600 in case of General and OBC candidates.  
  • Rs   800 in case of SC/ST/PWD category candidates. 
The CAT 2015 fee is payable at the time of online registration through valid credit/debit card or net banking facility. 


CAT 2014 Test Centers:- 

CAT test centers are registered locations wherein students can take the exam. This year 99 test centers notified across the country . This is four more than last year’s count.

 CAT 2014 Paper Pattern:

Total Duration- 2 hours and 50 minutes (170 minutes)
Total Number of Questions in each section: 50 questions
Sections-  Two sections
Section 1- Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QA and DI) [70 minutes]
Section 2- Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning (VA and LR) [70 minutes]
Marking scheme- Three marks for every right answer and deduction of one mark for a wrong answer.


 Selection Procedure for admission to IIM through CAT 2014: 

Please note that Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) select CAT qualified candidates for second stage of selection according to the available number of seats. The second round process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI).

CAT score is an important factor for CAT 2014 selection process. In addition to this the IIM may use your previous academic performance and relevant work experience in shortlisting and ranking candidates for various stages of admission. 

CAT Result will be declared in the third week of December 2014. List of selected candidates will be made available on individual IIM websites. Each IIM will send interview letters to shortlisted candidates individually. Yet again, we inform you that the criteria for shortlisting varies from IIM to IIM. We advise you to visit the admission links of various Indian Institute of Management websites for more information regarding the same.

If you are shortlisted for an interview by an IIM you are required to comply with the following eligibility verification:

a) Mark sheets and Degree Certificates: If you are selected for a program you are required to produce original degree certificate and mark sheets of all semesters/years along with their attested copies must be submitted for verification at the time of joining the program.

b) Reservation Category requirements: If short- listed for interview, SC, ST, NC- OBC and DA candidates must show the original caste/class and/or disability certificate and submit a photocopy at the time of interview. Further, if you are selected for a program,original certificate of qualifying degree and attested copy of the same must be submitted for verification at the time of joining a programme.

c) Candidates in Final year of graduation: If short-listed for interview, candidates appearing for the final bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification examination must show an original certificate from the Principal/Registrar/Director of the university/institution certifying that the candidate has obtained 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidates belonging to SC, ST, and DA category) based on latest available grades/marks. The attested copy of the original certificate must be produced at the time of the interview.

The deadline for submission of mark sheet and certificate is December 30, 2015 (Thursday).
